Course Descriptions
HIPAA Business Associates & Agreements: Simplified
1-hour of general CE presented by Olivia Ash, Compliancedashboard
This one-hour course will remind participants about responsibilities Business Associates have under HIPAA regulations, including privacy, security, and breach notification guidelines. The focus of the hour will be on Business Associates: who they are, roles they play, and guidelines they must follow. The hour will end with a review of necessary contract language required in Business Associate agreements.
Navigating Reference Based Pricing in North Texas (and elsewhere)
1-hour of general CE presented by Bret Brummitt, Generous Benefits
Vendors using reference based pricing sell the sizzle of huge savings, carriers taught the strength of their network, brokers and advisors get clamor to find the competitive advantage, and employees get stuck having to execute on innovative plan designs in the moment of crisis. Let's discuss each aspect of the journey and where within the spectrum we can help make meaningful improvements to those we serve.
Overview of Nondiscrimination Testing for Health & Welfare Plans
1-hour of general CE presented by Stephen Wynn, CXC Solutions
Educational session on nondiscrimination testing for Cafeteria Plans, Health FSAs, DCAPs, HRAs and Self-Insured Medical Plans. Learn the ins and outs of the testing requirements and process from a compliance specialist. Establish a foundation of knowledge on the subject in order to help your clients protect the pre-tax status of their health and welfare plans. Topics covered include: overall concepts of nondiscrimination testing; what plans are subject to nondiscrimination rules; recommended timelines for testing; common causes and consequences of failure; how to avoid discrimination through plan design; how to correct discriminatory plans; how to effectively communicate nondiscrimination issues to your clients; and practical tips based on real-world examples.
"Tell 'Em What You Want, What You Really Really Want"
1-hour ethics course presented by Eric Johnson, ComedyCE.com
Agents and brokers shop the market, gather quotes and plan information, and make recommendations to their clients from the available options. But what if the right options aren’t available because the insurance carriers the broker represents don’t offer the preferred combinations of copayments, deductible, coinsurance, out-of-pocket exposure, and network providers? Or what if the carrier offers so many options that it’s difficult to make a decision? The answer, of course, is that the consumer suffers. Our clients end up confused and frustrated and, too often, feel like they have to “settle” for a plan that doesn’t really meet their needs. In this class, insurance advisors will have the opportunity to tell their carrier partners what they and their clients want—what they really, really want.
Bad Medicine
1-hour ethics course presented by Eric Johnson, ComedyCE.com
Brokers are supposed to recommend plans that best meet their clients’ needs, but too often they end up presenting solutions that are pretty similar to what the client already has without even considering some of the out-of-the-box options the carriers offer. Like a doctor prescribing the wrong medication to treat a patient’s condition, this bad advice can actually end up harming our customers. In this course, we’ll examine some of the unique plan designs available in the market and take an honest look at what information is actually finding its way to the consumer. To the extent that brokers aren’t presenting some of these innovative solutions to their clients, they could be costing their clients money and hurting the carrier’s chance of making a sale.
