Mike has been with
UniCare in Texas since their acquisition of Mass Mutual in
1996. He has over 19 years of experience in the Insurance
Industry. He currently manages both Sales & Account
Management for the North Texas & Oklahoma territories.
In 2007, Mike was appointed to the Dallas Association of
Health Underwriters Board of Directors as the Strategic
Membership Chair. He is a graduate of Niagara University
and received his CPA designation while working in Public
Accounting. He is married with 3 children.

Tamela Southan has been a long standing
member of National Association of Health Underwriters having
participated with DAHU and VAHU since 1991. With her
relocation back to Dallas, Tamela took the big step starting
her own independent insurance agency, Benefit Solutions by
Design in January 2008.
As a consumer and insurance professional my goal is to
provide my clients, associates and consumers with a solid
knowledge and understanding of the benefits designed to best
suit their specific needs now and into the future. Peace of
Mind is the cornerstone to one’s security and satisfaction
when it comes to healthcare solutions.
With her great experience and enthusiasm she has served in
various board positions always focusing her passions around
legislative issues. While working in Washington, DC and here
locally, she works to keep the key aspects that impact our
free market system actively engaged.

Stu has been an
Employee Benefit professional since 1980. He is currently a
District Manager with Colonial Life responsible for worksite
marketing, benefit communication and enrollment on accounts
from 3 lives to 5,000+ lives. He has a CEBS designation
since 1992 and has serves as the Treasurer, Vice President and
President of the local chapter. He has been attending Health
Underwriters’ meetings since 1992.

Jacqueline (Jackie)
Kim received her Bachelors of Science degree in Communications
Studies from The University of Texas at Austin. She has been a
DAHU member since 2005 when she entered into the insurance
business. Jackie started her insurance career at a small
agency in Lewisville in the employee benefits department. She
is currently working at Humana as a Small Business Account
Advisors. In her space time, she enjoys spending time with her
family and friends. She looks forward to becoming active
member of DAHU.

Patrick Skinner
entered the insurance business in 1978, after earning a BBA
from SMU with a minor in Insurance. He has been an independent
agent for over 30 years, specializing in employee benefits for
small employers and individuals. He earned his CLU designation
in 1981 and his ChFC in 1983.
Patrick worked with several agencies before starting
Patrick Skinner and Associates in 1988. Patrick stresses
Customer Service with education of risk and appropriate
solutions for his clients.
Patrick has been a member of the Dallas Association of
Health Underwriters for over 20 years and joined the Board as
the Sponsorship Director in 2007 and moved into the Tx
Legislative Chair from 2008 to present.
He has been married to Joyce for 26 years and has 2
wonderful kids – Danielle and Ross.
Fun Facts: Patrick was 1st McKinney YMCA Nation Chief of
the Indian programs. Patrick has coached 30 youth sports teams
in soccer, basketball, and baseball, from ages 4 thru 14.
Patrick was a board member of the McKinney Baseball
Association for 7 years, including Commissioner for 2.

Diane Gonzalez-Vickers
holds a General Agent Life and Health license in the State of
Texas. She has 18 years of experience as a Small Business
Owner. Prior to her insurance career she was a small business
owner. She knows the challenges that are involved when an
employer wants to offer his/her employees' group health and
life benefits but is concerned about the costs.
She started in business in 1999, as an insurance Agent
working for a local agency in Dallas and within two years
started her own agency, Benefit Writers, in May 2001 in
Rockwall, TX. Customer service is very important to Diane; she
works very hard to go above and beyond what her client's
expectations are of her.
She is a member of NAHU and she joined Dallas DAHU in 2002.
Last year was the first time for her to serve on the board of
DAHU, and she is committed to excellence while serving as
Awards Chairperson. During her tenure the awards won for DAHU
were the Pacesetter Award, The Membership Growth Award for
Large Chapter, and Media Relations Award.
As health care reform became the focus in Washington her
passion to help and give back to the industry became her
priority and she accepted the DAHU Federal Legislative Chair.
She was the first to hold a town Hall meeting to discuss
reform with Congressman Ralph Hall as the key note speaker.
This allowed the citizens of Rockwall to talk about their
concerns with health care reforms. She traveled to Washington,
DC to lobby with NAHU in April and again in July. She is
committed to her role and responsibilities of DAHU federal
legislative chair to keep the latest information delivered to
her association and her clients

Long Term and DI.
In her spare time she enjoys spends quality time with her
family and friends, church, photography, floral designing and
volunteering for Non-Profit organizations. She is married to

Larry recently retired
from Hartford Life and has entered the group benefits
brokerage business as an independent. He was born in Dallas,
and graduated from East Texas State University with a degree
in accounting. Larry's married with one daughter and a 6 year

responsible for sales; marketing; and relationship building
for the company’s South Central region. In addition Mr. Higman
is responsible for training and development of brokers, as
well as those existing business partners. NAF Funding is a
Life Settlements broker.
Prior to joining NAF Funding, LLC, Mr. Higman served as a
Regional Benefits Vice President, and Regional Vice President
for Symetra Financial (formerly known as Safeco Life). While
at Safeco, Mr. Higman also served in other various positions
in his nearly 22 years of experience. Mr. Higman holds the
Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter; and Certified
Insurance Counselor designations. He is also Series 6 & 63
licensed as well as holding Life & Health insurance

Diane Gonzalez-Vickers

Texas. She has 17 years of experience as a Small Business
Owner. Before she became an independent insurance agent she
owned a Small Business and understands from both sides what
the employee and an employer faces, what challenges are
involved when an employer wants to offer his/her employees'
group benefits and also questioning if it's affordable.

Doris began her insurance
career in 1989 working for a large trucking agency in Southern
California where she managed both operations and sales.
She joined USNow in 1997 after spending 8 wonderful years
in P&C with her primary focus being specialty lines. Doris
was promoted to Senior Vice President/Chief Operations and
Compliance Officer in 2000, but has since resigned her
operational duties to resume her passion in Sales.
I couldn’t imagine my life any other way; I’m madly in love
with my Husband, my two Children and three Grandchildren and
even with all its faults I love the insurance business and the
wonderful relationships that come with it.
I look forward to a long and rewarding relationship with
DAHU and it’s members and I hope to make a lasting
contribution.

General Agency since 2005. I am responsible for working with
the agents to educate them on products, process new groups,
and client customer service. My main responsibility is working
as a liaison between the insurance carriers and the agents. I
also manage the day to day business of The General Agency.
Prior to that I worked at Compass Bank in Financial Sales
where I received my insurance license. I have a Bachelor of
Science degree from Western Kentucky University and have an 11

Latricia Strutton is a
