Henry Dawson Award
The "Dawson Award" is one of our most prestigious awards presented each year to the member considered to have made the most valuable contribution of time and support to DAHU over the past year. Recipients are not eligible again for a period of at least five years. The winner is determined through DAHU member nomination, and then voted on by the DAHU membership.

The “Henry Dawson” Award is named after Mr. Henry Dawson who is one of the Pioneers and Founding Members of DAHU, serving as President at Local, State and National levels. Some of his past recognitions are:

  • Founder of “GRIP” (Grass Roots Initiative Program)
  • Co-Creator of the National Legislative Council
  • Co-Creator of the first comprehensive Budget Process

Jacqueline St. Hilaire - DAHU member since 1995 and in the insurance business for past 17 years. Jacqueline has represented DAHU at Day at the Capital, Capitol Conference, the TAHU Convention and the NAHU Convention for the last 4 years. Jacqueline also assisted in the organization of the DAHU annual Legislative Day and helps raise funds necessary to pay the salary for our lobbyist in Austin. She received her GBA and is currently working on obtaining her CEBS designation.

The Nova Award - The "NOVA" Award is presented to an individual member who has demonstrated significant new energy and accomplishment on behalf of the association during the last year.

Reid Rasmussen - DAHU member that has been involved in the insurance industry for years and active in the association on different boards in the past years. Reid was present at the 2006 NAHU Convention to bring home another award for DAHU, the "Williams G. Wetzel - Excellence in Public Speaking", that he was responsible for providing all data detail for submittal.

The Stellar Award - The "Stellar" Award is presented to an individual member who has demonstrated steady and consistent participation in and support of all DAHU activities.

Jim and Debi Bowman - Long standing DAHU members, who have been consistent supporters and participants in DAHU events. They currently have their own agency, which was started about 8 years ago.

The MVP Award - The "MVP" Award is presented to a member of the Board of Directors who has demonstrated the single most significant achievement on behalf of DAHU during the year.

Larry French - DAHU "Media Chair" Board Member since 2005 has provided more advertisement in the print and publishing field for the Association. Larry also won the 2006 National Association of Health Underwriters Award for "Media Relations" at the National Convention held in San Francisco this past June.

The Leadership Award - The "Leadership" Award is presented to a member of the Board of Directors whose contribution includes consistent attendance and participation in meetings, luncheons and other association events, and who has successfully achieved the goals set forth during the strategic planning meeting for the year.

Kathy Powell - DAHU "Newsletter Chair" Board Member since 2004 has been a consistent participant in all events. She has been responsible for providing our membership with a new newsletter vendor that provides DAHU information in a timelier, professional publication.

The Hendershot Award - The "Hendershot" Award shall recognize the one company whose support for DAHU's members and mission exceeds all others. Primary considerations will include carriers' financial and philosophical support for our chapter. Contributions evaluated may include:

  • Sponsorship of Legislative Day
  • Sponsorship of Sales Congress
  • Sponsorship of Luncheons
  • Sponsorship of other events
  • Supportive of DAHU membership among its sales force
  • Advertiser in monthly newsletter

The Awards Selection Committee is responsible for tabulating all detail to nominate and select the award recipient.

The "Hendershot" Award is named after Mr. Clayton Hendershot, a long-time DAHU member, who began his insurance career in 1981 as a Marketing/Claims Representative and had it ended early, through illness, as an Account Executive with Delta Dental. Some of Clayton's accomplishments were:

SafeGuard Dental & Vision has been a strong advocate of the Dallas Association of Health Underwriters by sponsoring, contributing and allowing employees to participate in many of the DAHU functions. SafeGuard Dental & Vision fit the awards criteria listed above and also exceeded it with consistent sponsorships (i.e."DAHU Jingle Jam", DAHU Board Members, DAHU members, Leadership Round Table members, newsletter, Leg Days, etc.). Trei Wild, past NAHU President and current President of SafeGuard Texas was present to accept this prestigious award.
